Bayou Remains #1 in Deep South
The Bayou Hurricanes continued their winning ways on Saturday with a 47-5 defeat of West Jefferson.
The Hurricanes struck first with stalwart Zavier Triplett at outside center touching down, and then fullback Alvin Delaune adding another. Triplett scored his second, and then wing Shane Wright, wing Demery Rener, and Delaune again scored before the break.
Hunter Breit at scrumhalf converted five of the six tries for a 40-0 halftime lead. Bayou would then clear their bench at halftime, using eight replacements. The second half would prove to be a tighter competition with the visitors touching down in the corner. Bayou still controlled most aspects of the game, and Triplett find the try zone for this third time, and Breit's conversion made it 47-5, which is how the game would end. The Bayou Hurricanes remain undefeated in regular season play at 9-0 and will be the #1 seed in the playoffs, which assures them homefield advantage in the first round.
Meanwhile, Jesuit of New Orleans defeated Shreveport 26-12 on Friday to stay in second place. St. Paul's won the clash of 3-v-4, defeating the NOLA Barbarians 17-7 to take 3rd - for the moment. This coming weekend, St. Paul's has to play Shreveport, and Jesuit takes on the Barbarians. A Barbarians win will likely drop the Blue Jays lower, and any of those three can finish 2nd if things go their way, although the Barbarians need a massive win to get there.
