Baltimore Poly Takes Down Exiles
Baltimore Poly defeated the Maryland Exiles 26-17 this past weekend, setting themselves up for a run at the playoffs.
The Exiles went into the game unbeaten, so to take this result was a big deal for Baltimore Poly.
"It really makes a difference for a game when a club travels together as a team, warms up as a team, and is prepared on time for a good rugby game," aid Head Coach Michael Delia. "We got on them early and often and I feel that was the difference in this game."
Poly was led by captains Shamar Molock and Jacob Hahn. Molock led by example and was the player of the game. He scored two tries on long-range breaks, took over the kicking duties and, slotting three conversions, and was a defensive powerhouse as well.
Michael Robinson was key on defense also, making key tackles as the Exiles ran phase after phase. Robinson also scored a try that iced the game.
"We have a lot of young players who are new to the game and they all stepped up in this big game," added Delia. "I could not be more proud of the effort from the boys."
Rugby Maryland enters their quarterfinals May 13 held at the campus of University of Maryland-Baltimore. The semifinals and finals are a week later at Mount St. Mary's.
