Here's a quick look at what went on in Northern California boys HS rugby as we saw several all-ranked meetings.

Granite Bay 22-0 SFGG

This was a difficult game to play, especially with Granite Bay making an early start to get to San Francisco. It was windy and hailed through a chunk of the second half. Granite Bay ran out to a 12-0 lead with the wind at their backs and SFGG Head Coach Tony Wells said he felt his side had played well to that point. They had chances in the second half, "but we didn't capitalize with the wind."

Granite Bay scored two later tries to win 22-0.

"The boys persevered," said GB Head Coach Chris Miller. "Tough conditions, formidable opponent, good challenges for my boys to work through."

Danville 20-12 San Mateo

This was not a Premier League game but still one in which the Wolverines hung tough. Danville, however, did take the opportunity to get some challenging game time for some younger players. The Oaks scored three minutes in and then kept up the pressure. Danville had further chances to score, mostly through kickable penalties, but they opted instead to try to get through a difficult San Mateo D.

The Wolverines held them out and finally after about 10 minutes of that Danville opted for posts and extended their lead to 8-0. As sometimes happens, that seemed to open things up a bit more and Danville ran in a try just a few minutes later. The Oaks added another near the end of the half, and San Mateo replied to make it 20-5 at the break.

The second half saw much more defense and both team miss some chances. The Wolverines scored late to make it 20-12.

Marin 79-7 Lamorinda

In what was a league game the Marin Highlanders laid down a bit of a market. Charlie Vantress, Ian Ross, and Van Hampton all did well moving the ball and setting up their teammates, which contributed to this being a bit of a runaway. Marin's defense also was solid, as the Highlanders now look ahead to next week's clash with Danville.

Elsie Allen 31-10 East Palo Alto

Elsie Allen No. 8 Waisea Bainibure has been piling on the tries and with an exciting backline featuring Emasi Rabukawaga and Sikeli Nale they have a very potent attack.

De La Salle 45-0 Serra

In cold and wind and rain, De La Salle shut out an athletic Serra team that is improving.

"Despite the conditions I was pleased with the boys and their effort," said De La Salle Head Coach Derek Holmberg.

Tommy Rainsford scored twice and has been showing good leadership within in the team. Fullback Parker Beilke kicked well and was very effective there, while also scoring two tries.

De La Salle next faces Jesuit to decide who, along with St. Francis, represents NorCal in the Single-School North vs South crossover.
