All-Time American List: Mike Saunders
Mike Saunders launches a kick ahead fir the Eagles.
Mike Saunders is one of the best American rugby players ever.
The captain and one of the driving forces behind the virtually unstoppable OMBAC teams of the 1980s and 1990s.
He was a remarkable leader, cerebral, adventurous, and skilled. As scrumhalf for the USA and OMBAC he played 12 times for the Eagles from 1987 to 1989. He captained the Eagles and also OMBAC, a team he led to national DI club 15s championships in four seasons from 1988 to 1993.
His teammates and peers lauded Saunders repeatedly for his overall ability—defense, passing, attacking flair—but it was, in the end his inspirational leadership and intelligence that raised him above the rest.
