AIC Doubles Up Yale
AIC opened its inaugural DiA season by defeating DIAA and Ivy League squad Yale 38-19.
Center Filippo Banzato opened the scoring four minutes in, capping off an attacking move from a lineout. Lock Malik Walker rambled in from midfield and then Bonzato neeted his second for a 19-0 lead after 30. Yale replied to make it 19-7 at the break.
But once again AIC struck quickly after the kickoff. This time scrumhalf Carm Consolino scored, and then Walker got his second - once again powering up the middle. Yale had no answer for the big man galloping through. Walker got his third later in the game with the same move. Fullback Michele Magistrali converted four of the six tries.
“Overall it was a good chance to get out there and play against a technically sound squad in our first action of the season," said Guiry. "It was a solid litmus test. We’ll watch the tape and clean up our issues before Rutgers next Sunday."
“Good first outing," added hooker and captain Nic Franklyn. "Some things need to sharpen up, but a pretty solid platform to start with.”
“They were aware our threats were on the outside, so as a team we had to make adjustments on the fly and by the 25th minute we were clicking with communication and read how their backs pressed us and adjusted,” said center Darrin Fernandez.
