Jesuit Looks Strong In NorCal Win
Jesuit of Sacramento defeated Mother Lode Saturday as the NorCal HS Premier League 37-10.
The Marauders started brightly with backs and forwards mixing up the attack and making a series of line breaks.
Granite Bay Wins Big Over Solo
Granite Bay logged an emphatic victory over the weekend in Northern California's Boys HS Premier league, defeating the Solo Falcons 61-5.
Solo had the size advantage and were physical in contact, but struggled to maintain possession, and that's where the Grizzlies hurt them. Granite Bay had a good attack out wide and a shutout defense in the second half.
GB scored two quick tries with outside center Brett Lindsay and wing Garrett Curtis. Solo took advantage of GB penalties and attacked up the middle with prop George Raymond for a try. GB wing Andrew Martinez scored in the left corner and fullback Drew Sanderson scored after a break on the outside before the half ended.
Katy Wins Again
Katy defeated St. Thomas of Houston 62-7 in Texas HS D1 East Division action, showing once again that Katy is a team to watch.
Aidan de Villiera scored four tries in the game, while Max Palmer logged 27 pints on two tries, seven conversions, and a penalty. Gregor Gourlay, Grady Pope, and Jeremy Sanchez also scored tries.
Also winners this week in Texas - Eagle Mountain, Woodlands, and Allen.

HS Rankings Notes And How To See Them
A few thoughts and comments on Boys HS Rankings.
The new Boys HS Rankings are on FloRugby here - you've got to sign up to see them, but it's worth it, as you'll also get access to a whole bunch of other stuff.
Northern California
Already there have been a few shakeups. SFGG beat Danville for the first time in about five years. Lamorinda defeated CK McClatchy over the weekend (and will probably get some help in the rankings next week).
Wild Results Harbinger HS Rankings Shakeups
Who should we be looking at with the High School Rankings?
Well, watch out. GRR is partnering with FloRugby on our High School Rankings once again, and they will be available on Wednesday.
Here's a little sneak preview:
St. Augustine has shaken up things in Southern California in the single-school brackets. Longtime Texas powers Lake Travis and Westlake have suffered losses. and SFGG beat Danville over the weekend.
That's enough to think we might see something new.
SFGG Over Danville
SFGG was down to 14 players for the final 30 minutes, but was physical and aggressive and beat Danville for the first time in five years. Center Junior Tea was a force and wing Joey Kerrigan was also effective. Up front, the props Lasa Tofi (tighthead), and player of the game Bermie Carlin (loosehead) were immense.
SoCal Latest - Playoff Time!
The playoffs are set for Southern California's Varsity Red and Varsity White divisions.
In Varsity Red, St. John Bosco and Mira Costa were already settled for the playoffs, in that order, out of LA.
In the San Diego Conference, Cathedral defeated Del Norte 31-20 and Torrey Pines beat Patrick Henry 57-17. But the big result was St. Augustine over La Costa Canyon 24-19. This was a huge victory for St. Augustine, as it thrust the Saints into 1st in the Varsity Red San Diego Conference.
Torrey Pines had been hoping for a St. Augustine loss in order to make the playoffs, but that didn't happen, and Pines is on the outside looking in. LCC edges out Torrey Pines thanks to better bonus points.
So the playoff matchups are: La Costa Canyon v St. John Bosco, and St. Augustine v Mira Costa.
Rugby Texas Latest - Early Surprises
Katy continued its strong run of results with a 24-19 decision over St. Pius X in Rugby Texas D! action over the weekend.
Katy is playing well as a team, and needed every bit of it to hold off a determined St. Pius team.
Aidan de Villiers, Glen Robertson, and Grady Pope all scored tries and Max Palmer converted all three and hit a crucial penalty goal to defeat Pius.
Meanwhile, perennial powers Lake Travis and Westlake both lost this past weekend. Lake Travis lost 17-0 to Jesuit of Dallas, which is a bit of a shocker. Westlake lost to Allen, a team that also defeated Jesuit.
The Dallas Harlequins Colts did well to eke out a victory over Rock Rugby 27-25.
Cardinal Gibbons Turns Heads In Florida
Don't look now, but Cardinal Gibbons is 3-0 in Florida HS action.
The single-school team has beaten St. Thomas Aquinas, Boca Raston, and, most recently, West Pines to lead its league. It's a good start, said Coach Eric Aumann.
"For it being early in the season, I think we are doing a good job in creating opportunities with offense, but the strongest part of our game is definitely defense," said Aumann. "Particularly, we're being patient waiting for the other team to make an offensive mistake so we can get our hands on a loose ball. We have seen many times where we are able to drive the opponent backwards when we are on defense so that certainly helps to force errors."
Junior No. 8 Chad Tiernan has been a solid player, and then had to move to scrumhalf, of all places, and has filled in well.

LCC v St. Augustine Playoff Decider In SoCal
It's down to the wire on the Southern California Boys HS Varsity Red competition, as playoff berths hang in the balance.
Last week, La Costa Canyon was able to hold on to beat Cathedral. LCC went up early, fell behind 14-13 at the break, and then pulled away 37-28 late in the game.
Torrey Pines defeated Del Norte, and so the standings now look like this:
