HSAA Team Comes Back To Beat Canada U18s
The USA High School Americans came back from a 40-24 deficit to beat the Canadian U18s 46-43 in dramatic fashion Sunday night on Vancouver Island.
The Americans had won two practice games by 24-7 and 27-7. This game was a little different as Canada blew apart what had been a very tight game (21-19 at halftime) to lead by more than two converted tries with 13 minutes to go.
But a well-executed maul produced one try for the HSAA team, and then a superb movement down the wing led to a forwards' try on a pick-and-go. Canada got a penalty goal, and led 43-39 with time winding down. The the Americans worked to ball weak off a scrum, and then went back the other way, where sub hooker Ben Porter was waiting. Porter, whose parents are American but who lives in Germany and plays with SC Frankfurt there, has shown a superb work rate all this assembly.

HS All Americans Enjoying Assembly In BC
The Boys HS All Americans are cooling off in the chilly waters around Vancouver Island—think the world’s most Orca-dense ice bath—after two solid outings in the team’s assembly in Canada.
Head coach Brendan Keane and his staff have assembled 29 players to training in British Columbia. Several days’ work was followed by residency at Brentwood College prep school, whey they and their Canadian counterparts stayed in dorm houses just 20 yards from the rugby field.
The dorms allowed the players to relax, stay in close proximity, and socialize in a way that’s difficult at a hotel. As a result, they bonded quickly and got to work on developing their rugby. (See photos including the walk from the front door and the back door.)
Boys HS All American 7s Teams Ready For Can-Am

The top two teams will then meet in the final.
Program Director JD Stephenson said the assembly in Toronto has been very beneficial.
"The coaching staff of JK [Anderson], Ehtan [Pougnet], Steve [Brennan], and Greg [Schor] have done a wonderful job getting the players ready," said Stephenson. "Josie [Ziluca] and Jake [Shafer] have them physically in a great place, and out manager, Mike Elam, has been ensuring the ship sials smoothly. Lastly big thanks to our analyst, Tom Argy."
