All Americans and Ontario Set for Clash
Collegiate All Americans Head Coach Matt Sherman has named his starting lineup to face the Ontario Blues Canadian provincial side in the final match of the All Americans’ three-game sumer assembly.
Sherman has made six changes from the side that beat Cambridge University on Wednesday. Wheeling Jesuit hooker Peter Malcolm comes in for Tino Paopahavihanh (Bellevue College, but rumored to be joining Central Washington soon). Davenport prop Angus McClellan comes in for Dino Waldren.
In the second row, Mike Lawrenson starts for the third straight game, but without his regular partner, Ben Landry, who injured his shoulder in the last game. Mike Gierlach of Lindenwood takes Landry’s place.
Madison Hughes captains the side for the third-straight game, but changes positions once again, moving from scrumhalf to fullback, replacing Lucas Baistrocchi. Niku Kruger takes Hughes’s place at scrumhalf. Garrett Brewer of St. Mary’s returns to the starting lineup, at left wing, while his fellow Gael Kingsley McGowan moves from wing to outside center. McGowan replaces UCLA’ Sam Sirrell, while Cooper Maloney comes back from injury to take Chris Turori’s place at right wing.
For the All Americans, this will be a big test, as the Blues are a very solid team.
“Coach Matt Sherman told us they were probably the third-best team in North America, behind Canada and USA,” said Lawrenson, whose stock has shot up in this assembly. “We know they will be a tough, physical team, and that’s why we’re here. We’re not interested in just playing easy games and winning them. We are looking for a challenge, and we’ve got one.”
