GRR: California
We're back with Gamebreakers for DIA. Here is who got noticed from February 8.
Jack Springer, North TexasThe powerful UNT lock thundered through for UNT’s opening try and set the physical tone with several big carries and clearouts in his team’s 31-19 defeat of Baylor.
Cal rode a strong second half to beat UCLA in the PAC Rugby Conference opener, and the Golden Bears followed that up with a defeat of NSCRO team Cal Maritime.
UCLA battled and held Cal to a 12-0 lead at halftime, before the Bears opened up to win 59-7.
The Mid-South is back on the field and already we've got a key matchup as Top-10 teams Lindenwood (#3) and Arkansas State (#7) meet in a game that will likely be very close.
February brings a little more busy group of games in D1A with Central Washington at Arizona the highlight.
A year ago Cal defeated UC Davis 136-0 and later 141-3 in a spring in which several top-ranking vs middle-ranking clashes ended up in triple figures; this year little changed as Cal defeated the Aggies 137-0 Saturday.
"We thank UC Davis for that match," said Cal Head Coach Jack Clark. "Tough day for them, but they stuck at the match."
