USA Rugby Names Ross Young Interim CEO
LAFAYETTE, CO (USA Rugby Release) – USA Rugby today announced the appointment of Ross Young to the position of Interim CEO and Director of Operations with the National Governing Body. Young steps in as Dan Payne transitions into his new role and puts his focus solely on the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018.
Young has been under contract with USA Rugby, through his employer ATAVUS, for general support and in delivering the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018. For more than 20 years, Young has operated in a management role with some of the largest entities within World Rugby including Rugby World Cup Limited, having served as General Manager through the 2003, 2007 and 2011 tournaments.
“Ross’ inclusion as Interim CEO is a substantial benefit to USA Rugby as we enter three of the most crucial months in our history,” said Dan Payne. “I want to thank him and our team for their dedication.”
“I am really excited to have the opportunity to take on these roles during this important stage of development for USA Rugby,” said Young, “Having been involved with Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 planning for the last 18 months and supporting the USA Rugby National Office recently, it has given me the chance to reaffirm the massive opportunities ahead for rugby in the United States. We are undoubtedly going through a transition phase, but I am confident I can use my experience to give continuity and stability through it and build a platform for future success.”
Originally a Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police Service in Twickenham, Young moved to the US in 2013 when he joined ATAVUS in Seattle, Washington as Chief Executive Officer. Working closely with USA Rugby through the USA Rugby Academy powered by ATAVUS, Young joins the union as a familiar face.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank Chris and Julie Prentice in particular and everyone else at Atavus who gave me the opportunity to come to the US almost 5 years ago and learn so much about the rugby landscape in America. I wish them all the success in continuing their journey with their endeavors in rugby and Football.”
Payne added, “I want to also thank the team over at ATAVUS for their support the past few months. Working with them during this transitional period is a testament to the great partnership we have.”
As Young undertakes responsibility in Colorado, the executive search for a permanent CEO with USA Rugby continues.
