Norwich University scrumhalf Tom St. Pierre was the sparkplug this past weekend as the Cadets defeated Middlebury 30-14.
St. Pierre scored a two tries to go with the try he scored against Rhode Island the week before, with that pair against Middlebury helping stake his team to a 15-0 first-half lead.
Flyhalf and scrumhalf are important positions on a rugby field - they’re all important, sure, but these two have special responsibilities - and perhaps that’s why we so often see players trained overseas fill those positions at the national, pro, club, and even college level; but there are capable halfbacks in the HS ranks coming up who need to be looked at.
A couple of years ago Corey Graham missed a season with Notre Dame College because of illness, but the slick-running flyhalf is all fine now, and making other teams pay.
We use the term Gamebreaker to mean a rugby player who has made an impact, but it seems especially relevant when we talk about Jihad Khabir.
In a game that was very close between New England College and American International College, Khabir scored two brilliant tries to blow open the game and ensure a win for AIC.
West Point flyhalf Jon Kim set a program record with seven conversions in Army’s 49-3 defeat of Stony Brook.
However, Kim’s kicking wasn’t the only thing that impressed. The convert from the Army football team (where he was the kicker) showed good all-around skills and ran the West Point offense smartly in the opening victory.
