Fishers had a big day at the Midwest Boys Championships, beating St. Ignatius 39-33 and then edging Royal Irish 20-19.
The Fishers backline put on a nice offensive display against St. Ignatius, and then brought a strong defensive effort against Royal Irish. Ignatius was held up in-goal right at the end of that game.
The Midwest Boys HS Championships kicks off this weekend and it's a new-look tournament.
Previous years have seen the tournament split into HS Club and Single-School brackets. However, that has not been the best option, especially as Royal Irish has won fairly easily on the club side.
Royal Irish won the Midwest Boys multi-school team bracket Sunday, but it wasn’t easy.
The defending NIT HS club champs defeated Fishers 21-17 in the final in a game where Fishers scored late and had a chance to win it.
Penn HS won the single-school brackets of the Midwest HS Championships, and while this was a very competitive bracket, Penn won in convincing fashion.
