LA2028 Finalizes Sport-Specific Venues, Dates, and Times

The LA 2028 Olympic Games have announced the dates for the different competitions.

Rugby 7s will be held July 12-18. The first tournament will be held at Dignity Health Sports Park July 12 and 13 for pool play, and then July 15 for the final matches, when the medals will be awarded.

The break for July 14 is because the Opening Ceremonies are actually Friday, July 14. So the pool matches and quarterfinals will be played July 12 and 13 and the day off is for athletes to attend the Opening Ceremonies on the 14th. The Dignity Health Sports Park stadium will be called Carson Stadium for the Olympic Games because the Games won't accommodate sponsors not associated with the Olympics.

On July 16 the next tournament starts with pool play on July 16 and 17, and quarterfinals also on the 17th.

The semifinals and medal games will be played July 18.

We haven't seen which will be the women's tournament and which will be the men's tournament. We could guess but we're not sure.

During the time that the rugby is being played at Carson Stadium, the outlying fields at the complex will be dedicated to Field Hockey. That entire complex will also host Archery (Carson Stadium), Bicycling (Carson Velodrome), and Tennis (Carson Court). But those sports will be held after the rugby is finished.

Interestingly, the LA2028 schedule bucks tradition in other sports, with Track and Field held in Week 1 and Swimming in Week 2. That sequence is usually switched.
