GRR: Kansas Youth Rugby
St. Thomas Aquinas defeated the Kansas City Cougars 38-12 Saturday to take the Kansas Youth Rugby championship and exact revenge on a team that had beaten them earlier in the season.
Aquinas Head Coach Tim Kluempers said his team controlled the kicking game much better in this meeting of the two teams.
St. Thomas Aquinas finally got one over on their rivals, Kansas City Junior Blues this week, defeating the Blues 25-22 Wednesday evening.
Aquinas had lost twice to the Blues this season, 10-5 in the KC Tournament on March 29, and 31-24 a week later in Kansas City.
After losing a close game to the Kansas City Cougars out of Shawnee Mission, Kan., St. Thomas Aquinas bounced back with a 54-7 defeat of Park Hill South this past weekend.
STA led 40-0 at halftime, and, with an eye toward developing depth for the Boys NIT in May, Head Coach Tim Kluempers subbed in as many as he could.
The Kansas City Junior Blues edged St. Thomas Aquinas 31-24 over the weekend in a game that’s not part of any league, but is usually considered the battle for Kansas City rugby supremacy.
It might well be, although the Kansas City Cougars are still trying to make it three’s a crowd.
