Gamebreakers Men DII College Playoffs
Playoff time, and so big performances are event bigger; here's a look at some players who made an impact during the Men's DII college playoffs this past weekend.
Noah Cook Norwich
Cook scored two tries as Norwich won their Round of 16 game over Loyola.
Jeffrey Rein, Furman
The Paladins' scrumhalf directed a very potent Furman attack in a win over William Paterson.
Dylan Moorman, UMS&T
The hard-hitting lock forward was in the middle of the action for S&T and also served as their goalkicker as S&T shut down Montana State 34-3.
Scott Labine, Illinois State
The No. 8 for ISU is their captain and one of their chief ground-gainers, and led from the front over MSU Moorhead.
Eric Jones, Illinois State
The ISU prop scored the opening two tries for his side in its 31-7 defeat of MSU-Moorhead. He then scored the opening try on Sunday, too, in his side’s 13-10 loss to Missouri S&T.
Entire Team, Central Michigan University
Asked to fill in for a depleted Grand Valley State on short notice, the CMU team reassembled, got the road trip put together, and pitched up. They lost to UMass-Lowell the Day One, but with a very competitive 20-12 scoreline. Sunday they were rained out.
Tyler Glave and Zachary Warlick scored their two tries. But the point was, they didn't back down and showed up when they were needed.
Devon McCarthy, Queens
The openside flanker was all over the field and all over the scorehseet as Queens cruised past a very good Lehigh team.
Calvin Gentry, Memphis
The Tigers center scored his team’s opening try against Villanova, and then turned a 13-12 deficit into a 17-13 lead with a key second-half try.
Kyle Clark, Norwich
The Cadets hooker logged 100 minutes and scored the last two tries for his team as tey won in overtime over Furman.
Benjie Hund, Queens
The Royals flanker was a monster all weekend, roaming the field looking for unsuspecting ballcarriers to summarily dump to the deck, and making life difficult for everyone in the rucks.
Austin McMillen, UMS&T
A key team leader (pictured above making a tackle), McMillen was a powerful presence up front, helped S&T win the scrum battle and the maul battle, and he also scored the game-winning try in a 13-10 defeat of Illinois State.
Josh Wetherall, Wisconsin-Whitewater
In two games where every point counts, Wetherall counted. He kicked two conversions in a 19-17 defeat of Vermont on Day One, and then on Day Two converted all four Whitewater tries, and added a penalty goal as the Warhawks held off Memphis 31-24.
