Once Again A Wild Finish In Chesapeake

Virginia Tech Rugby.

Without playing this weekend, NC State did what it needed to do and will be in the 2nd-vs-3rd playoff in the Chesapeake Conference.

Two games were on the slate for Saturday, and with NC State done for the season, the Wolfpack had to wait to see who would win and who would lose, and whether two teas would pass them by into the playoff. It looked like that might happen, but the results eventually fell NCSU's way.

Mount St. Mary's needed a win to get to that top three spot, and Salisbury wanted one, as well. In the end, the teams tied 36-36, giving Maryland three standings points, which put the Sharks in a tie with NC State in points.

So then Maryland was still in with a chance to get to the top three if the Terps beat Virginia Tech. But the Hokies held on 47-29.

So Virginia Tech has won the conference, while NC State and Salisbury face off for 2nd. This promises to be a barnburner as the last time they met Salisbury won 26-24.

As has been the case since its inception, the Chesapeake Conference is the most competitive conference in men's college rugby. No team was undefeated. There were two ties and four other games within a try.
