GRR: Rugby Northeast
UMass-Lowell started their Rugby Northeast season up and down, beating St. Michael’s, losing to Roger Williams, beating Bentley (barely), and losing to Providence - but then things changes.
As Saint Michael’s and Stonehill entered the final week of the Rugby Northeast season, both teams had already secured places in the DII fall Round of 32. But there was no semblance of comfort on the pitch when the undefeated rivals contested the conference title Saturday. Stonehill wanted its third-straight trophy, but Saint Michael’s controlled the game for a 41-12 win.
In a game rescheduled due to rain, 19th-ranked Roger Williams defeated #33 Bentley 36-5 Thursday evening in Rugby Northeast Men’s DII college rugby action.
Going into the game, Roger Williams Head Coach Chris Palombo said he wanted his players to be smarter with the ball in hand, and more careful with the ball in contact.
In a rare midweek game in Men's DII college rugby, Roger Williams travels to Bentley tonight for a makeup game.
RWU and Bentley were supposed to clash on Saturday, but the game was rained out. With Roger Williams sitting at 3-0 and Bentley at 2-1, this game has big ramifications.
RWU Head Coach Chris Palombo said his team still needs to imporve.
There’s reason to be excited in the Rugby Northeast (RNE). The conference has seen some movement this fall season, and so far, it’s all been for the better. Three teams aligned with NSCRO but are still playing RNE conference schedules, and another two programs have been added to the lineup, and they’re ticking up the competition.
