GRR: Deep South HS
Wednesday evening saw the Deep South HS rugby conference hold its semifinals, with undefeated St. Paul’s taking on New Orleans Jesuit, and Archbishop facing Mississippi.
St. Paul’s of Covington finished their Deep South HS league season undefeated after they won 17-10 on the road against 2nd-place Mississippi.
JT Kinch, Cullen Lagasse, Christian Jarrett, and Jacob McDonald all scored for St. Paul’s, who finished the season with 183 points for an only 25 scored again.
St. Paul’s remains the top team in the Deep South HS league after beating one of the stronger programs in the region, Archbishop Shaw, 17-10 Saturday.
The victory means St. Paul’s is now 5-0 with three games left in the regular season.
Derek Drago paced St. Paul’s with two tries, while Sam Gartman added one and Jacob McDonald kicked his team’s lone conversion.
St. Paul’s improved to 3-0 in the Deep South boys HS league this weekend with an 81-0 defeat of the New Orleans Marine & Military Academy.
With some of the more well-known teams in Louisiana embroiled in a tough series of wins and losses, St. Paul’s has emerged as potentially the top team in the region.
In a clash of two of the stronger teams in the Deep South Tuesday night, Brother Martin came back from a 12-point lead to beat Archbishop Shaw 26-24.
