GRR: Deep South HS
The Bayous Hurricanes swept aside an imposing opponent in the Deep South Boys HS league with a 17-5 defeat of defending regional champions St. Paul’s.
This was a game that had all sorts of bad blood in 2015, but was played in a fine spirit Saturday and a good level of skill.
The Bayou Hurricanes are 3-0 and St. Paul’s are 2-0 in Deep South High School conference play, and just to make things perfect, the two teams clash in Raceland, La. Saturday.
Watch out for the Bayou Hurricanes.
St. Thomas HS of Houston took a trip to Louisiana to play Brother Martin, and came back with a massive victory.
St. Thomas is returning 13 starters from last year, and their cohesiveness showed as they put Brother Martin to the sword 98-0. Senior captain Josh Pane scored four tries and junior openside flanker Griffin Maat scored four, including runs of 40 and 70 meters.
St. Paul’s moved to 2-0 in the Deep South HS league with a 29-14 defeat of NIceville out of Florida’s panhandle.
Niceville had beaten Brother Martin the previous week and gave the defending regional champs some trouble, and even led early in the game.
“We had difficulty reading the ref and figuring out his calls,” said captain Christian Jarrett.
