The first weekend in the Deep South Boys HS league saw the defending champion St. Paul’s squad win big.
St. Paul’s defeated West Jefferson 48-0 in a game they controlled from the outset. Nine different St. Paul’s players scored, and the team’s defense was staunch.
The Deep South HS league kicks off with defending champions St. Paul’s looking to reload and shoot for a repeat.
It won’t be easy.
"We have four returning seniors on our starting 15,” said regional all-star Mark Spicer. “We've had a great turnout, but our team is centered on growth for our sophomore and junior classes."
The City of Shreveport is making a renewed surge to be a rugby town with the debut of its new high school team, and a three-game afternoon of rugby.
The Shreveport Area Rugby Club HS-age team will open league proceedings with the hosting of the Houma Hurricanes.
Meanwhile, also on Saturday, Louisiana Tech will face an LSU 15, and Alabama will take on LSU.
The Deep South Boys HS league kicks off this weekend with six teams in action, including defending regional champs St. Paul’s HS.
St. Paul’s will visit a West Jefferson team that was very competitive in what ended a losing season at 3-5. Shreveport joins the league and plays their first game at Lee Hedges Stadium in that city. Shreveport hosts Bayou.
The Deep South Boys HS title was decided Saturday, and it took the maximum amount of time as the game went into overtime, and then penalty kicks.
