A hugely competitive Boys Fall 7s Championships ended in driving rain and mud, and no excuses as Berks County pulled off two upsets to win the title.
Going into the Rugby PA championship weekend the Hempfield Knightmares had every reason to wear the favorites’ mantel.
The Knightmares had, after all, won 13 games and lost just the one before Fall Fest in Malvern, Pa. Their closest rivals were likely Doylestown, but a Dowlstown team that had graduated some very talented players and were 9-5 on the season.
High School Rugby in Pennsylvania received an organizational boost this week as the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Board of Directors has approved the creation of an Emerging Sport classification.

Rugby PASusquehanna University hosted a leg of the Rugby PA Boys series, with series leaders Berks not in attendance.
In Pool A was West Shore, Bishop Shanahan, St. Joe’s Prep, and the Bethesda (Md.) Roosters.
Pool B had Blackthorn, Doylestown, Conestoga, and a Motley team.
States are starting to crown their high school champions.
