GRR: Massachusetts Youth Rugby
Boston College High capped off a perfect season with a 60-19 win over St. John’s Prep in a repeat of the previous year’s championship game.
It's championship tournament time in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, with this the first year of an officially-sanctioned varsity rugby league in the Bay Stat.
In a repeat of last year’s semi-finals, BC High (5-0) takes on Xaverian (3-3). These two haven't met since Week 2. St. John’s Prep (5-1) hosts Belmont HS (4-2), who met in Week 4.
The inaugural MIAA season is entering the back half of the schedule in Massachusetts.
Now recognized by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association as a varsity sport, a new tournament setup will also go into effect for teams in the league.
Rather than points and a league table, any team that makes .500 will automatically qualify for the post-season.
In a rematch from last year's Massachusetts state final, BC High used smothering defense and a few quick strikes to beat St. John’s Prep 18-5 Wednesday night.
Here is the latest list of Boys all-star teams slated to play in the Northeast Regional Cup.
The tournament will be June 18-19 at the Lincoln Park Bowl in Albany, NY.
