GRR: Massachusetts Youth Rugby
The Boys HS league in Massachusetts is running now, despite rough weather, and in driving wind and rain Thursday night BC Hightook on St. John’s Prep.
It seems like it has taken a little too long for Nate Brakeley to get here, but maybe that’s just the way it is.
Boston College High took the Massachusetts State Championships DI bracket Saturday with a 26-10 defeat of rivals Belmont High School.
The game began as a defensive battle and expanded as time went on. Both teams started off with their defenses making most of the noise. Both BC and BHS tried to work the phases and slowly problem for gaps. There weren’t many.
Some state playoffs are are either underway or about to wrap up this week.
In Michigan, Grandville defeated Troy Athens HS 10-0, then beat West Ottawa in overtime to make the state final. Grandville and Ottawa tied 33-33 after overtime, and it went down to penalty kicks, with Grandville prevailing.
The Massachusetts Youth Rugby Boys state semifinals are set for Tuesday, May 19 with Boston College High taking on Xaverian and Belmont High hosting Hendricken.
Xaverian beat St. John's Prep May 14 for the right to play BC High, while Hendricken defeated Needham in the other quarterfinal. BC High (5-0) and Belmont (4-1), received byes.
