Women DI Round of 16 Kicks Off
The final 16 of women’s DI playoffs kicks off this weekend at four regional sites.
Here’s the lineup of games:
Lindenwood v Washington State
Stanford v Arizona
played at Stanford
Life v North Carolina
Central Florida v Virginia
played at Life
Penn State v James Madison
Sorensen Finalist - Sydnee Watanabe
In a women’s college rugby environment where varsity programs are spring up all over, UC Davis is a national power paddling against the tide, and heaving the biggest paddle may well be Sydnee Watanabe.
Four Sorensen Finalists Named
The finalists for the 2016-17 MA Sorensen Award have been named, as the search for the top women's DI-level college rugby player is now down to four.
Davis, GCU Battle it Out
It hasn’t been an easy ride for UC Davis, but the Aggies will play for the Spring DIAA championship in two weeks against Florida State.
The road took them through a very difficult Chico State in the Pacific Western final, a gritty Cal State Long Beach team in Saturday’s Spring quarterfinal, and then an exciting Grand Canyon team that proved much this weekend.
DIAA West Bracket - GCU, UCD
Grand Canyon University and UC Davis will face off Sunday in the DIAA Western Bracket after both won games on Saturday.
The quarterfinals in the West were played at Western Washington University's rugby stadium in Bellingham, Wash. on a cold, rainy day. The conditions may not have made for the prettiest rugby, but it was certainly dramatic.
