GRR: Women DII College
Although the height of the women’s college 7s season has come and gone, the CRC 7s cannot be overlooked. It’s a high-profile event for the men, and the 12-team women’s division will share in a fraction of that exposure. Pool play will be contested tomorrow, the Cup semifinals Saturday, and the final Sunday.
It has been a tumultuous year for Notre Dame College, but the Falcons have been able to win – big – behind the stabilizing leadership of players like Hannah Gauthreaux. The junior has been on the 7s radar, having already played internationally for teams like Atlantis and Tiger Cubs, but she’s had to lean on a different set of skills to navigate the Falcons through a tough spring.
(additional reporting by Owen Goff) Pool play has ended and eight teams remain in the hunt for the Women’s College 7s National Championship. The top two finishers in each pool moved into the Cup competition; the #3 teams in each pool will start at the semifinal phase and play for the Bowl; and the four #4 teams will play for the Shield.
(additional reporting by Owen Goff) Round I of the Women’s College 7s Championship has concluded, and for the most part, the results have matched expectations.
Even though Humboldt State and UN Reno women's teams performed well at DII playoffs this year, the West Coast conference in its entirety struggled in 2015.
