GRR: William Paterson
William Paterson has won the Tri-State Conference, defeating RPI 34-19 in Sunday's championship match to vault WPU into the national playoffs.
Paterson came back from a 16-10 halftime deficit to defeat a very intelligent and savvy RPI team.
"They came at us very hard," said WPU Head Coach Kisset Chirengende. "RPI is a really good team."
William Paterson University Men ran away with the Tri-State Conference 7s title in style and the New Jersey school collected their third consecutive conference 7s crown. Not only did WPU win the championship but their ferocious defense held all attackers at bay as they did not concede any points over their 3 pool games games, the quarterfinal, semifinal and final!
This past weekend saw William Paterson University Men defeat USMMA, Kings Point Men convincingly 69-5 in a semifinal match-up. The home team earned a place in the final this year and will face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Men who defeated Marist College Men 36-24 in the other conference final 4 match-up.
It will be William Paterson against Sacred Heart for the Tri-State Conference championship after both won semifinals this weekend.
It’s down to four in the Tri-Sate Conference after Sunday’s Quarterfinals.
RPI pulled off a slight upset in edging Seton Hall 22-19 at Seton Hall. While Goff Rugby Report had RPI ranked and Seton Hall not ranked, Seton Hall, in fact, was seeded higher than RPI in the Tri-State.
