San Diego is the team in Gold Coast after beating Cal State Long Beach 31-19 to move to 3-0 in the conference.
Long Beach State won its opening game of the Gold Coast season, beating Arizona State 34-13.
University of San Diego started off their Gold Coast Conference campaign with some sizzle on a hot Saturday.
Behind two tries from loose forward and Man of the Match Joey Shenton, the Tereors led 29-0 at halftime and never looked back in defeating Arizona State 41-10.
University of San Diego plays San Diego State Saturday in the first annual Founders Cup meeting between the two.
The game is played to honor the founders and alumni of both programs. With San Diego State Rugby founded in 1958 and USD Rugby founded in 1980 they have plenty of those alumni. This is a nice challenge trophy to kick-start the season for the teams.
The University of San Diego defeated Azusa Pacific 28-7 Saturday in the only game in the Gold Coast.
USD is now 1-1, and Azusa Pacific 0-2. Players in wet, muddy conditions, both teams had trouble holding onto the ball at times, and footing was unpredictable.
