GRR: Royal Irish
Penn HS and Royal Irish started the Rugby Indiana Super League on a winning note, as once again the league of four ranked teams kicks off.
Royal Irish played two games, one in-league and one not, beating Brownsburg 25-10 and then on Sunday defeating Ohio-based Archbishop Moeller School 41-9.
It was a good weekend for the defending HS club NIT champs.
Penn HS ran the table in the Lindenwood High School tournament held at Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Mo. this weekend.
The tournament was a good kickoff for teams in the Midwest, and mercifully, it wasn’t a snow-fest like last year.
Eight programs entered varsity teams, while six also entered JV teams. Indiana-based Penn won both brackets, not losing a game.
On Day One of the two-day Lindenwood High School tournament, Penn HS of Indiana has looked very strong.
In a meeting of the two defending Boys NIT champions, 2015 single-school winner Gonzaga HS defeated 2015 HS club winner Royal Irish 15-13 at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia Saturday.
It’s another meeting of champions Saturday as, for the second year in a row, defending single-school NIT winner Gonzaga faces defending HS club NIT winner Royal Irish in an early game.
It may be a shade too early for both - we’ll see - as Gonzaga has just had a couple of scrimmages, and Royal Irish has not played at all.
