GRR: Penn State
Penn State’s win over Wheeling Jesuit may well have put the rest of Rugby East on notice.
After losing to AIC in a non-conference game and then beating St. Bonaventure, but not by much, PSU’s win over the Cardinals might well be an indication that the Nittany Lions are sharpening their claws.
Lindenwood’s first and second sides have played two games apiece, and they’ve combined for a 390-0 scoreline. But the Lady Lions aren’t padding their schedule with gimme games; those victories came against two traditionally strong DI teams, Northern Iowa and Indiana. And this weekend, the Missouri side travels to State College, Pa., to take on Army and Penn State.
Penn State moved to 2-0 in the Rugby East with a tough 38-33 victory over Wheeling Jesuit Saturday.
WJU dropped to 1-1.
“PSU punished us for our mistakes,” said WJU head Coach Tal Bayer. “I am proud of our effort on the day. Our boys pushed until the end, scoring four tries. It looked like we might pull it out.”
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Penn State Release) – The Pennsylvania State University has named Blake Burdette and Kate Daley head coaches of the Men’s and Women’s programs respectively. Following a three-month search led by Director of Rugby, Chris Amoratis, the two were selected to fill the first ever full-time coach positions in the program’s history.
American International College got a late try from flyhalf Jihad Khabir to defeat Penn State 34-27 in an early-season clash between the two top college programs.
AIC took an early lead with a penalty kick from fullback Michele Magistrali, but Penn State scrumhalf Jimmy Ronan tied it up two minutes later.
