Granite Bay exacted some measure of revenge and defeated Royal Irish to win the 2016 Boys HS Club national championship Saturday at the Rugby Athletic Center in Charlotte, NC.
The Grizzlies enjoyed a brilliant performance from their deep three of Anthony Wiley, Jon Rogers, and Sam Cusano, and an aggressive defensive performance from everyone.
Jesuit High School and Danville Oaks will meet next week for the Northern California Varsity Premier championship.
Danville defeated Archbishop Riordan in a very difficult game 37-13. Danville was favored to win but got a stern contest from Riordan. It was much, much closer in the other semifinal, as Jesuit just defeated Granite Bay by the score of 26-24.
Our Player of the Week this week is Andrew Smith.
In a week where Granite Bay launched itself into the national conversation with an emphatic defeat of the Solo Falcons, Smith was perhaps the best of several great performances.
“He was clutch in every phase of the game,” said Head Coach Jason Divine.
Granite Bay shook up the Northern California Premier Varsity league yet again as the Grizzlies shocked the Solo Falcons 64-7 Saturday.
Solo had entered the game undefeated, having beaten, Danville, among others, to get to that points.
But in a much-anticipated clash at Bonney Field in Sacramento, Granite Bay slammed the Falcons 64-7.
