January is Here and So Is Boys HS Rugby
Winter break is officially over and we're into some high school action this coming weekend.
In fact, we had some action this past weekend with Torrey Pines and San Clemente facing off in Southern California. Torrey Pines won 49-14.
Late Surge Sees Tempe Win Arizona Title Tempe defeated Red Mountain in the Arizona Boys HS D1 final Friday night, taking the game and the championship 34-21. It was a windy evening and Red Mountain started with the breeze at their backs. However, they had difficulty making it work for them. An eager Tempe defense put pressure on Red Mountain and that produced turnovers and mistakes. As a result, it was Tempe that opened the scoring.
Tempe Downs Tucson Tempe improved to 6-2 after a 37-12 victory over Tucson in Arizona. This was Tempe's first game since mid-March, when they beat Brophy Prep 57-12. Working methodically through the phases Tempe was able to build a nice three-try lead. But penalties and mistakes started to creep into their game and Tucson was able to punish those to score trice to get back into the game.

Tempe U16s Win State Title in Thriller
May 8 saw the Rugby Arizona Boys U16 final between longtime rivals Red Mountain and Tempe, and the game did not disappoint.
In a thriller, Tempe won 38-36.
