GRR: Chargers
It was a good weekend for the Wisconsin-based Chargers team, as they swept their four Border Battle games with Minnesota teams Eagan, Minnetonka, Edina, and Hopkins.
Chargers Head Coach Neil Mattek was especially gratified at how some newer players showed in place of some more experienced athletes.
Minnesota's Eagan High School boys rugby team recently finished up with an overseas tour of Wales, Scotland, and England to begin their upcoming 15s season.
The boys began the tour playing games against St Peters, Llanishen, Fishguard, and finally finishing with Bilton School. Eagan began their tour in Wales and finished their tour in Rugby England at the Old Laurentians RFC.
Kansas City Junior Blues won the Tulsa Hooligan Rugby Tournament Sunday, defeating the Chargers out of Wisconsin 20-13 in the final.
The Lindenwood Tournament returned this weekend with six top HS teams in action Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, despite chilly and snowy conditions at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., all of the games were held.
The Wisconsin HS 7s season is well underway with with the Chargers out of Sheboygan County undefeated so far.
The Chargers have entered two teams, with Chargers 1 going 3-0 in the tournament in Pulaski, and 3-0 in Green Bay. The Chargers 2 team was also undefeated in Pulaski, but were edged 21-19 by Middleton in Green Bay and sit 5-1 so far.
