Fort Hunt did what was expected this past weekend in Mid-Atlantic Premier League action, but Doylestown was a bit of a surprise.
West End beat Doylestown 28-26 on Saturday, while Fort Hunt beat West Shore United 35-7. On Sunday, Fort Hunt hammered Doylestown 88-7, while West End beat West Shore United 28-16.
Rugby Pennsylvania crowned their state champions this weekend, with a surprise or two along the way.
Played in Mechanicsburg and Conshohocken, Pa, the championships covered two days, with semifinals and finals in Boys HS Club, Boys Varsity, Girls DI and DII, and Juniors and Youth.
Gonzaga HS defeated Fort Hunt 10-3 to win a somewhat rain-soaked Jesuit Classic Sunday.
With rain limiting some of the games, not all of the brackets were played to a conclusion, however the cup bracket was.
Cumberland Valley won again, beating West Shore United in a midweek game and moving to 4-0 in the Rugby Pennsylvania Boys Club White division.
CV is actually a single-school team, but geography and logistics mean they're better off in the HS club league. Regardless, after beating West Shore 34-12, Cumberland Valley is now 4-0 having outscored league opponents 246-24.
Fort Hunt, as expected, clinched the Mid-Atlantic Premier League with a 29-14 defeat of West End.
West End finished their five-game MAPL season with a 1-3-1 record. Downingtown won 22-20 over West Shore in a game that was also a Rugby Pa league game. Downingtown can bypass West End for 4th if they get a tie, a two-bonus-point loss, or a win against Doylestown.
