GRR: West Point Women
WEST POINT, NY — Army West Point women shut out Quinnipiac 39-0 on Friday night to improve to 1-1-1 in NIRA DI.
Codi Butt had a big night, scoring two tries, three conversions, and a penalty goal for a total of 19 points. Army controlled the game from the outset, and along with Butt, Hope Moseley, Emma Gamboa, Kaitlyn Schwarting, and McKayle O'Boyle all scored tries.
Dartmouth moved to 3-0 in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association DI with a 34-28 defeat of Army at West Point on Sunday.
Brown University, NIRA Tier II runners-up in 2019, made the move to DI this season and almost beat 2019 Tier I runners-up West Point.
Kate Molloy's try and Macy McKenzie's conversion brought Brown back from a 19-12 deficit to lock the game at 19-19 with 15 minutes to go. Neither team was able to score after that, and they went to overtime.
The Army-Navy rematch this weekend has been canceled.
With COVID-19 cases on the apparent increase around the nation, the West Point and US Naval Academy administrations decided to cancel the games for both men and women.
West Point swept today's action with rivals the US Naval Academy, with the men and women's teams both winning.
In what is usually a relatively close contest, the men's game ended up being more lopsided than usual. In a hotly-contested clash, Army put Navy under pressure early, and from a scrum hammered it up once and then a flat pass to newcomer Dominic Tianga put the flanker over.
