GRR: Virginia Tech
After several years running their team through the student-athletes, Virginia Tech Men's Rugby is looking to hire a Head Coach.
The position is paid, and the qualified candidate will be taking over a program with over 70 players, an NCR championship trophy from this fall, and a challenging schedule in the Chesapeake Conference.
With a great big mound of obstacles piled against them, the Virginia Tech Hokies ended their fall of 2021 in fine style, winning NCR's DIAA playoffs.
Virginia Tech defeated West Chester 34-22 in the NCR DIAA final, capping off an improbably run for the self-coaches Hokies.
Virginia Tech proved themselves worthy opponents after a rough regular season, beating Boise State to make the NCR DIAA final in Houston.
The Hokies had finished 5th in the Chesapeake with a 2-4 record, but with the top teams in that conference going to the DI playoffs, there was a chance in the DIAA playoffs for Tech to make their mark.
Mount St. Mary's shut out Virginia Tech on the road this past weekend, taking the Hokies down 35-0.
The match kicked off in hot conditions. The Mount started the game off quickly with a try by Angelo Gurcsik five minutes in. The forwards provided a strong scrum platform for the backs to work the ball through the ends to release the senior wing Gurcsik on the edge.
