GRR: St. Augustine
Four teams in California will collide for the first California Rugby State Championship this Saturday at UCLA. The day will start with the third place match where Saint Augustine from San Diego will play athletic powerhouse De La Salle from Concord. In the Championship match Saint John Bosco from Bellflower will play Jesuit of Sacramento.
St. John Bosco upset St. Augustine to take the SCIRF title over the weekend, in a win that was not without controversy.
Bosco did well to stifle an impressive St. Augustine attack, and held the Saints to just 11 points.
Still unbeaten in the SCIRF, St. Augustine has emerged as a powerhouse single-school program.
One of the players leading the way is Mike Cross, and he is our Player Of The Month for January, 2019.
(Editor's note, yes, it's not been January for two weeks, sorry, we're late with this one but will be more prompt in the future.)
St. John Bosco won the Southern California Varsity Red championship in a massive physical battle, riding a strong second half to beat St. Augustine 54-35.
The playoffs are set for Southern California's Varsity Red and Varsity White divisions.
In Varsity Red, St. John Bosco and Mira Costa were already settled for the playoffs, in that order, out of LA.
