GRR: Sevens World Series
February 8, 2017, Wilton, Connecticut -- VKTRY Gear (www.VKTRYgear.com), makers of VK Insoles, the world’s first carbon fiber performance insole, is pleased to announce its partnership with USA Rugby National 7s team player Carlin Isles.
The USA Men’s National 7s team put together some good performances and some iffy performances at the Sydney 7s, and ultimately finished 6th in Australia.
The Eagles beat Argentina and Canada on Day One in one of the tougher pools of the tournament, but then lost to a Russian team they really should have beaten.
The USA Men's National 7s team finished tied for 11th in the Wellington 7s, and thus saw France, Australia, Argentina, and Kenya pull ahead of them in the overall World Series standings.
The Eagles now sit 11th with 23 points; South Africa leads with 63 points, well ahead of #2 Fiji and #3 England.
Here are the USA 7s team's total stats from the Wellington 7s.
The Eagles finished 2-2-1, losing in the Challenge Trophy semis to Kenya.
Their scores were:
USA 21 France 21
USA 24 Samoa 12
USA 12 New Zealand 24
USA 19 Japan 14
USA 12 Kenya 19
The USA Men's 7s team lost to Kenya 19-12 in the Challenge Cup semis (what used to be the Bowl semis) of the Wellington 7s.
Perry Baker got a first-half try, but Kenya controlled much of the match, and the Eagles only added to that score late in the game after they were down 19-7 - Madison Hughes scored the second try.
