GRR: Scholz Award
West Point tighthead prop Larry Williams has won the 2021-22 Rudy Scholz Award as the best men's collegiate rugby player in the country.
Williams, who helped lead Army to their first-ever D1A Championship last week in Houston.
Lucas LaCamp has already made such an impact as a collegiate player with UCLA that he has been capped by the USA 7s team.
While the D1A season ended a little earlier than Sam Golla wanted, the Cal captain has received accolades from around the country for his play.
This is tough to do for a lock, and a testament, in part, to Golla's play and leadership, and also to the attention the Rudy Scholz Award panelists give to rewarding the best players in the country.
West Point tighthead Larry Williams has been known to GRR readers for some time.
The finalists for the 2021-22 Rudy Scholz Award have been named.
The four players, who coincidentally will all be in action this coming weekend in the DIA semifinals, were selected from the previous list of 16 nominees based on votes from college rugby teams, as well as fans, from around the country. The opinions of college rugby coaches and experts weight heavily in this vote.
