GRR: RCT
USA Rugby officially announced the HS Regional Cup Tournaments last week, highlighting only four, instead of five events as has been the case in previous years.
The announcement came as USA Rugby is now re-positioning the RCTs as more of a college showcase, as a place where college rugby teams can see up-and-coming talent.
USA Rugby has selected four host venues for the High School-level Regional Cup Tournaments in the summer.
One more venue will be announced later.
The four venues are:South Regional Cup, Life University, Marietta, Ga. June 16-18
Rocky Mountain Challenge, Aurora, Colo. June 17-18
Midwest Regional Cup, Fishers, Ind., June 24-25
USA Rugby is working on a review of Youth and High School Eligibility, including age breakdowns, youth variations, as well as weight restrictions and other restrictions.
The National Governing Body is also reviewing when contact should be introduced to players.
USA Rugby’s regulations surrounding the Regional Cup all-star tournaments have elicited a little bit of pushback from some regions.
The regulations include a rule that Varsity all-star teams can only feature players in 11th and 12th grade. Junior Varsity teams can only feature players in 9th and 10th grade.
The Regional Cup Tournaments (RCT) are great scouting venues and billed as the primary means by which athletes can be invited to the Stars & Stripes camp, which brings 100 of the top girls and boys high school players together for a week of elite development.
