GRR: NC State
VMI, Radford, and NC State all won in the opening weekend in the Cardinals Collegiate DII Conference as the season kicked off.
For NC State it was a new competition for the Wolfpack as they moved into the Cardinals from the defunct (for 15s) ACRL. NC State ran out 40-13 winners over a solid Old Dominion team which finished 4-0-1 in last year’s conference season.
The UVa women's team gathered its third win of the season after defeating East Carolina, Tennessee, and NC State.
The Virginia players found their toughest competition thus far in NC State, yet even though UVa inside center Zoe Schmitt claims the score doesn’t reflect the actual game, UVa shut down NC State to take home a 75-0 victory.
Only two games into their ACRL season, NC State is now feeling pretty good after upending Maryland 26-22.
The result was a little bit of an upset - NC State was ranked #36 by Goff Rugby Report, and Maryland #32 - but not much. Still, it’s a big weekend for the Wolfpack and their aspirations in the ACRL.
The University of South Carolina won a tough game on the road this weekend, beating NC State 22-20 in Raleigh, NC.
It was a solid bounceback game for the Gamecocks, who were beaten soundly by Life University the week before.
North Carolina State defeated in-state rivals North Carolina Saturday in the final weekend of ACRL play.
NC State improved to 4-2 and finished 3rd in the league and also claimed the North Carolina stats title from the Tar Heels at the Rugby Athletic Center in Charlotte NC and came away with a 43-11 victory.
