Navy Heads List of Surprises in CRC
Some surprises and some expected outcomes in the first day of competition at the USA Sevens CRC in Chester, Pa.
The tournament itself is thankfully back to two days thanks to some fields being built just outside of PPL Park, allowing more games to be played in the morning on Day One, and thus eliminating the need for the much-maligned Friday night games.
CRC Preview and Notes
OK, so, big breath, time to handicap the CRC.
This year’s competition is the best yet. With the local teams in their own competition in the City 4, organizers have been able to replace Drexel, Penn, Villanova, and LaSalle with the likes of Arkansas State, Air Force, and Clemson. That makes for more code games in pool play, and more potential for surprises.
Women's CRC 7s Preview
Although the height of the women’s college 7s season has come and gone, the CRC 7s cannot be overlooked. It’s a high-profile event for the men, and the 12-team women’s division will share in a fraction of that exposure. Pool play will be contested tomorrow, the Cup semifinals Saturday, and the final Sunday.
Bitter Pill for CWU
Among the teams deeply disappointed in not winning the Men’s DI College 7s Championships in Denver, Central Washington would have to be at the top of the list.
Leading Davenport 21-12 with just a couple of minutes to go, the Wildcats saw it all disappear.
Mixed Feelings for St. Mary's on 7s Finish
St. Mary’s University almost made. Through a long 15s season they eventually produced a DIA championship, and then through Saturday at the USA Rugby College 7s Championships in Denver, they were undefeated and in with an excellent chance of winning the Cup.
