GRR: Lindenwood
Midwest D1A Conference powerhouse Lindenwood University hosted an intense game on its home turf at Hunter Stadium on March 22 against the McKendree Bearcats. The final score of 44-12 underscored a satisfying victory for the Lions.
The game started off fairly even in the first half, as the teams traded tries and the Lions led only by the slim margin of 15-12.
In a midweek game in Ellensburg, Wash., Lindenwood defeated Central Washington 37-22 Tuesday.
This game was far, far closer than the final score might indicate. It was tied with 13 minutes to go and was still a one-score game into the final five minutes.
The game was very entertaining and the scoring went back-and-forth for much of the afternoon.
Longtime rivals meet up in college rugby this weekend as the old Mid-South has a sort of reunion weekend, and all four of the teams involved are in GRR's Top 10.
Life University is coming off a victory over Lindenwood that launched them up to #3. They take on Arkansas State, a team we moved up to #2.
Life defeated Lindenwood in a top-10 D1A clash over the weekend, taking the Lions down 31-20 thanks in part to two tries from Shaun Matthysen.
The result moves to Life to 6-1 with their only loss being a 20-14 decision dropped to #1 Navy (who also won this weekend). For Lindenwood this is their second loss in a row after being edged 13-7 by Arkansas State last week.
Arkansas State, ranked #8 in the CRAA D1A Power Rankings and #9 by GRR defeated Lindenwood (ranked #2 by both rankings) 13-7 on a wild, windy day at Curt Huckaby Field in Jonesboro, Ark.
This was a low-scoring match and both teams defended their line through the game as it was a nailbiter with two minutes left. The urgency to halt scoring chances was high energy throughout.
