GRR: Florida Youth Rugby
The Florida state High School final will be a rematch of the South Florida regional final, as both the Okapi Wanderers and St. Thomas Aquinas teams won semis on Saturday.
Okapi Wanderers won the Florida Region 2 Boys HS championship Saturday, scoring on the final play of the game to edged St. Thomas Aquinas 26-24.
In a game that was certainly closer than Okapi expected, St. Thomas could not be shaken, and in fact led with time almost up.
The Florida HS playoffs continue this weekend after a day of surprise results last week.
In Region 1, Naples is at Orlando, and Westside is at Tampa. Those are region semifinal matchups that were decided a week ago. Tampa has beaten Orlando twice and Naples twice. Meanwhile, Naples and Orlando have not played each other, but Orlando has dominated in their pool.
The playoffs have arrived in Florida, with the various regions coming together in crossover matches.
The Tampa Krewe made something of a statement in Florida Youth Rugby action with a convincing 33-3 win over Orlando.
Tampa is now 6-0.
Fullback Nice Heikkinen was player of the game for Tampa, while senior and captain Stephen Walters was excellent on his goalkicking and led from the front.
