GRR: CRC 7s

irish rugby tours

06.02.2017 - Alex Goff

LaSalle, Malvern Prep,, Downingtown, and Salesianum lead the Boys HS Open 7s at the CRC after all four went 3-0 Friday.

Of the teams that didn't top their pools, Eagle Mountain (12-10 losers to LaSalle), and Media (20-21 losers to Downingtown) might feel they don't have far to go to overcome that deficit. Those teams, plus Union and Bishop Shanahan made the top eight.

With one national-level college 7s tournament done and one more to go, the CRC starts up this weekend in Chester, Pa.

We've got some pool-specific previews on FloRugby

The CRC 7s has announced the pools for its men's competition June 3-4 in Chester, Pa.

The tournament will have six pools of four teams each, with the six winners and the two best 2nd-place teams making the Cup Quarterfinals. This will mean that points difference will be a crucial aspect in deciding knockout round seeds and those two wild card spots.

So we now know the teams playing for a major 7s championship in college rugby, and, boy, it's a lot of teams.

It's a lot even though USA Rugby drastically reduced their number of teams participating. We still have 16 USA DI Men's teams, 24 CRC Men's teams, 12 USA Women's teams, 16 CRC Women's teams, 12 USA DII Men's teams, 8 NSCRO Men's teams, and 6 CRC Collegiate Challenge teams.

The qualifiers for the various end-of-season 7s tournaments are starting to fall into play.

We know the teams going to the CRC (see here), bar one more to be selected. The USA Rugby list is less set as most observers aren't even sure what the qualifiers are.
