Brown managed to hold off Fairfield 24-11 Friday night in a tense game that was perhaps closer than the defending NCR D1 champions desired.
For Brown Head Coach David LaFlamme, this could have been a bit of a statement win, but it wasn’t.
Brown University has won the NCR D1 men’s college championship with a powerful forward performance and a defense that gave up exactly two tries in three playoff games over the late fall.
Saturday night in Houston at Aveva Stadium, Brown stifled Queens University Charlotte, and, for the most part, didn’t allow them to get into their game, winning the final 21-5.
Queens University and Brown will face off in NCR’s D1 final this coming weekend after both won tight semifinals on Saturday.
A torrid first half saw the Royals past Thomas More Saturday evening.
Thomas More put Fairfield to the sword 70-21 to move on to the NCR D1 semifinals Saturday, jumping to the top four a year after winning the D2 playoffs.
Also into the NCR D1 semifinals are Queens University Charlotte, Brown, and defending champions St. Bonaventure.
Brown won the Liberty D1 conference Saturday night, defeating AIC 33-14.
Brown took the lead within the first few minutes behind a surging forward pack. The pressure forced a penalty which led to a lineout and a maul. The game remained 7-0 for about 15 minutes. Much of that was AIC on the front foot, but Brown's defense was very good.
