Brown Impresses in Second Win
One of the more interesting results in men's college rugby was Brown defeating Fordham 38-14.
Fordham is looking like one of the stronger teams in the Liberty Conference, while Brown has been working its way up the Ivy League. Well, Brown took a big step here.
It was a slow first half and Brown, which had beaten Norwich the week before, struggled with penalties and mistakes. That's what happened against Norwich, too.
Still, Brown was up 12-0 at halftime. In the second half, "we stopped throwing the ball away and put in 26 more points."
Both Duncan Grant and Santiago Cortabarria scored two tries. Sophomore Raphael Lansonneur was very effective at flyhalf, controlling the attack and kicking smartly. He also converted four tries.
"We still had a few injured first team players who sat out so I'd call it a success," said LaFlamme, who said that as the team coalesces they will begin to find their rhythm.
Next week would have been the start of league play but Columbia has, unfortunately forfeited. They will play Salve Regina instead to get more playing time for their players.
But Brown has started strong, and is worth watching.
