GRR: Belmont Shore
Belmont Shore enjoyed a pretty great spring.
The Boys HS team won Southern California and the National HS Club Championship. Two weeks later the club sent two girls teams and one boys team to the National Sevens Youth Championships. They did pretty well there, too, with their A-side girls taking second, and the boys team also taking 2nd.
Eagle Impact Rugby Academy girls scored on the final play to win the National Sevens Youth Rugby Championships girls bracket 17-15 over Belmont Shore.
Word came down from various opposing coaches early this season—2022 national cub runner-up Belmont Shore wasn't just good, they were better than laster year.
From the opening week of play that seemed to be true. Belmont Shore brought back several returning players, but also reloaded with a pile of talent and, to a certain extend, a different look.
Belmont Shore is now alone atop the Southern California HS Club standings after a 33-26 defeat of the San Diego Mustangs.
"Good contest," said Mustangs Head Coach MAtty Sandoval. "The better team won; [Belmont Shore] is better than last year, probably the best team in the country. We played well."
San Diego Mustangs and Belmont Shore lead the Southern California Boys HS Club league with 3-0 records after both beat well-regarded opponents over the weekend.
