GRR: Awards
When IUP lost their most celebrated player and their captain to injury a few weeks ago, the team was shaken up, and while they won that game, rebounding from the loss of RJ Beach had to be a key part of the rest of their season.
Enter Brian Arnold, who stepped in as the captain, and now our GRR Men's D2 Player of the Week.
A couple of more spring-centric D1A teams got in on the action this past weekend.
We caught up with them and other teams in our D1-level college rugby Gamebreakers.
Trevor Barrios, ColoradoThe Buffa loosehead prop was enormously influential in his side’s defeat of Grand Canyon, making some hard yards, playing tough defense, and leading from the front.
Our Men's D2 college Player of the Week is Finlay Hutton.
Hutton played flyhalf and scrumhalf for University of Vermont. He's from Scotland, Edinburgh, in fact, but is actually an exchange student from the University of Glasgow. Apparently being in both cities is the linguistic equivalent of offsetting penalties in football—he doesn't have a really noticeable Scottish accent.
Close games and big wins for the past weekend in men's DII college rugby.
Here are our Gamebreakers for the week.
Ian Hibbert, Northern IowaIn a huge win over Illinois State, Hibbert played wing, made some key attacking runs, and was also strong defensively.
Our list of top performers in Men's D1 college rugby this past weekend includes players who just do the dirty work up front, players who play defense, and big scorers.
Here are our Gamebreakers for this week.
