Jesuit High School Rugby finished league play in the Northern California Premier League with a 60-26 victory over the Solo Falcons, dropping the Falcons to 4-2 and pushing Jesuit to 5-1 and, for now, in 1st in the Northern California Varsity Premier.

Led once again by seniors flanker Luke Thayer and outside center Christian Dyer, the Marauders enjoyed moving the ball from sideline to sideline. Once they had the Falcons stretched, gaps appeared and quick hands became the name of the game. Thayer opened the scoring with great vision to spot a gap on the weak side and quick ball by scrumhalf Carlos Ramirez led to the first try. Dyer scored the next three tries, capitalizing off some strong runs by the inside backs, and Thayer kept the scoreboard moving with his conversions.  Solo got back into the game - punishing poor Jesuit discipline and some missed tackles. Halftime score Jesuit 29, Solo 14. 

The second half saw more of the same with Jesuit punishing turnovers and showing some slick handling to score four more tries. Solo never stopped competing and found a few gaps to score two twice. Forward of the Match was Luke Thayer, who was 7-8 on conversions and added two penalty goals for 20 points. Back of the Match was Christian Dyer, who kicked for space effectively and scored three tries.

“We have had trouble in the past playing in Dixon on a Thursday night, but the boys fronted up early to set the pace,” said Head Coach John Shorey. “We did our jobs and clinched a home game for the playoffs, now we can use our spring break to get some guys healthy and expand the play book.”

Below are the updated standings. Danville plays Archbishop Riordan this weekend, and the Oaks have an excellent shot at finishing 1st with a win.
