Payne Gets Promotion at Life U
Marietta, Ga. - Life University has announced that their Rugby Head Coach, Dan Payne, has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director.
The former USA flanker, who was a longtime star for OMBAC in San Diego and coached San Diego State, joined Life in 2009 as Director of Rugby. During that time, he launched the undergraduate team - Life has previously been fielding only a men's club side - and has now overseen the beginning of a women's undergraduate team. Payne will remain in his role as Director of Rugby, in addition to his new responsibilities as Assistant Athletic Director.
“Dan has shown incredible acumen, not only as a coach, but also as an administrator during his tenure at Life U,” said Dr. Guy Riekeman, President of Life University. “The manner and process by which he has elevated the rugby program here is exactly the type of influence and expertise he can spread to our other sports.”
“There are a number of positive and exciting things happening here at Life U, particularly in our athletic department," added Payne. "Sports are a great way to prepare student-athletes for life after graduation. I’ve always enjoyed the use of sport to help instill the habits and traits that will lead to success in life. Hard work, dedication, persistence, honesty and commitment translate into success, regardless of the endeavor. I look forward to being able to assist all of our programs with that goal in mind.”
